Installing the White Top Adventures Lagoon Mount
Adding a versatile table to your Sprinter van can significantly enhance its functionality, whether for dining, working, or simply holding drinks. The White Top Adventures Lagoon table mount bracket provides a sturdy and adjustable solution, especially for those with swivel seats. This guide will walk you through the installation process, sharing tips and addressing common challenges.
Tools You’ll Need
Gathering the right tools is the first step for a smooth installation:
- Drill bits: 11mm and 6mm
- Allen keys: 4mm (for smaller holes) and 5mm (for bigger holes)
- Wrench or Socket: 13mm and 10mm
- Rivet Gun: The kit includes M6 and M8 rivets.
- Tape: To catch metal shavings during drilling.
- Vacuum: For post-drilling cleanup.
- Touch-up Paint: To protect exposed metal after drilling.
- Long Extension for Socket: Crucial for reaching bolts in tight areas, especially near electronics.
- Optional: Step Drill Bit: Can save time if your holes don’t perfectly align.
Getting Ready: Pre-Installation Setup
This installation focuses on the 2024 Sprinter 170 extended, specifically for the driver’s side seat. The White Top Adventures bracket allows you to mount their beautiful bamboo folding table onto your swivel seat. It’s important to note that while some claim “no drill,” this installation likely requires drilling, especially with aftermarket swivel seats.
Key Pre-Installation Steps:
- Remove Seat Cover: The seat cover is easy to remove by backing it up and disengaging one connector. This provides better access and helps avoid interference with the parking brake lowering bracket (if installed).
- Protect from Metal Shavings: Place tape strategically to create a “cup” to catch metal shavings during drilling, preventing them from falling into carpets or electronic components.
- Address Swivel Seat Challenges: If you have swivel seats, the bracket might interfere with the swivel action if you use existing holes. The solution involves using the lower existing hole in conjunction with a new hole drilled at the very bottom of the seat base.
Installing the Main Bracket
- Pilot Hole & Drilling: Carefully mark the location for your new lower hole. Create a small pilot hole first, then drill it out to the required 11mm size. Ensure you’re not hitting any electronics or inner lips.
- Paint and File: Apply touch-up paint to any exposed metal from drilling to prevent rust. You may also need to file down any rough edges.
- Secure the Bracket: Once drilled, attach the main bracket. Keep it somewhat loose initially to allow for adjustments when installing the corner bracket.
Installing the Corner Bracket
The corner bracket has two holes for attaching to the main bracket and three holes for attaching to the seat base.
- Align and Verify: Attach the corner bracket to the main bracket (keeping everything loose). Align it with the seat base and verify that there are no sensitive electronics behind the drilling locations. Always use a stopper on your drill bit to avoid damaging electronics.
- Drill Three Holes: Carefully drill three holes into the seat base for the corner bracket. Use a 6mm drill bit for the M6 rivets.
- Washer Tip: For the very lower bolt on the main bracket, adding a washer can help compensate for the seat’s tilt and ensure the bracket is square, preventing forward flex.
- Accessing Electronics Box: To avoid damaging internal electronics, it’s highly recommended to remove the electronics box. This is typically secured by a 10mm bolt found deep within a compartment on both sides of the seat base. A long extension is essential.
Rivet Nuts and Final Tightening
- Insert Rivet Nuts: Install the M6 rivet nuts into the newly drilled holes. A step drill bit can be useful for slightly enlarging holes if they don’t perfectly fit the rivet nuts (M6, not M8).
- Attach Brackets: Secure the corner bracket to the seat base using the rivet nuts and bolts.
- Loose Fit First: Keep all bolts somewhat loose initially. This allows everything to line up before final tightening.
- Beware of Stripping: Avoid power tools, as 3mm Allen key bolts can easily strip. If hardware breaks (as it did in the example, extending the install from 15 minutes to 2 hours), have backup hardware.
- Alternative to Rivet Nuts: If rivet nuts prove problematic, consider using nuts and bolts with large washers directly through the sidewall for the lower attachments.
- Final Security: For maximum security, use nylon nuts on the back of any exposed bolts where thread allows, in addition to the rivet nuts.
The White Top Adventures Lagoon Table in Action
Once the bracket is securely installed, your Lagoon table (available in silver or black) can be mounted.
- Adjustability: The bracket allows you to easily raise and lower the table by several inches, bringing it all the way down to the floor or up to a comfortable height for the front or rear passengers.
- Versatility: This table is perfect for driving, allowing children to use it for computers or snacks. It features two cup holders and a sleek finish.
- Compact Design: The table is wide at the back but can be made smaller between the driver and passenger seats, making it a versatile addition to your van.
The White Top Adventures Lagoon table mount bracket provides a sturdy, adjustable, and aesthetically pleasing solution for integrating a functional table into your Sprinter van, even with swivel seats. While the installation may present some challenges, careful preparation and attention to detail will lead to a successful and rewarding upgrade for your van life.
